This video features hill and stair climbs using Sport Sandbags. With the growth of adventure races such as Spartan and Tough Mudder, there is a need for training tools than can replicate the demands of hill climbs carrying logs, rocks, etc. Sport Sandbags provide a consistent (and comfortable) load for hill training. Obviously you can choose your poison with weights ranging from 25-50 pounds. Our new re-designed SXL (100-lb) bags will be available later in the new year for those that want that extra challenge.
Stay in touch for more exciting developments!

New Year 2013
Happy New Year sandbaggers! As we all know calling someone a "sandbagger"can have negative connotations...... but around here it is somewhat of a compliment!
We would like to thank all of the athletes, trainers, and teams who have supported us over the last 5-years. We would also like to extend our gratitude to all the heavy duty operators out there (military, fire, and police) who have incorporated our products into their training regimens. We are proud and honoured to serve you!
We are excited for the road ahead and have many new things coming down the line for the New Year. 2013 will mark the introduction of our new multi-directional hip belt as well as the re-introduction of our HEAVY bags! We are also excited to showcase new athletes and training videos featuring our Sport Sandbag line-up.
We thought we should sign out with some pictures from the past year as we look forward with excitement to the year ahead.
Sincerely,
Sport Sandbags
That's all folks. Check back soon for new products, videos, and workouts!

Battling ropes
Battling ropes burst onto the scene a few years ago and have made serious inroads into most athletic training endeavours. Still, a lot of people wonder what they are actually used for? Ropes target a pretty specific need in an athletic training regimen and are used to develop muscular endurance and grip strength through the upper extremities. These movements are essential to various sports that rely heavily on upper extremity endurance like MMA, boxing, lacrosse, and hockey.
The advantage of using ropes is that they utilize the kinetic link between the legs, trunk, shoulders, and hands. All these elements are usually incorporated into rope movements which provide a full body blast and target the anaerobic power / endurance systems. Typical rope sets last 30-40 seconds and have you breathing hard by the end. In fact, you often wonder why you are so tired after just "throwing a rope around".
The problem I encounter with ropes is that there is not always a suitable anchor in the field. The ropes need to articulate off of a pretty stable point in order to be used effectively. Luckily Sport Sandbags have large, durable, loops which accommodate up to a 2"inch battling rope. This makes sandbags the perfect, portable anchor for field based rope exercises.
It is important to note that the bag used in this video is only 25-pounds! Despite it's light weight, it moved very little during filming. Our heavier bags work even better for this purpose.
Stay tuned in the coming weeks for Part II of our Battling ropes workout.
Cheers!

Durability
Just wanted to post some pictures of one of our 25-pound Classic sandbags that has been used heavily over the last 4-years. We take great pride in creating durable functional products that stand up to heavy abuse. This particular bag has been thrown, dragged, and dropped thousands of times!
Classic sandbag.....4 years and counting!
Loops and zippers are still holding on strong.
Seams are solid and ready for more pounding!

New athlete (and pendulums)
Sport Sandbags is proud to introduce Meagan to our athlete family. Meagan is a rock climber, runner, and adventure racer who just finished racing the "Tough Mudder" event in Whistler. Stay tuned for training videos featuring Meagan coming down the line in the next couple of weeks.
We also wanted to drop a quick training segment that we shot in the early Spring.
The Pendulum is a great multi-joint exercise that incorporates the legs, lower back, shoulders, and hands in a coordinated movement. This is an ideal training exercise for throwers and people who want to develop serious grip strength.
Lift the bag off the ground in a squat position. The bag should be directly underneath you!
Swing the bag upwards while "pushing" upwards out of the squat. The legs provide force and momentum. The arms should be straight throughout the movement.
Hang on!
The movement should finish with the arms directly overhead and the legs extended. Remember to return to a squat position as you lower the bag.

PENDULUMS
Perhaps the best place to start is with the grip! Grab the bag right just above the middle and hold on tight. Sandbags provide an excellent medium for developing strong hands but they can fatigue quickly with repetitive gripping and grasping. Remember to terminate the exercise if you are unable to hold on properly to the bag....this will avoid injury to you and others.

Repeat!
Remember to keep your lower back as straight as possible throughout the movement. The torso moves UP and DOWN not back and forth. With some practice you will begin to feel the legs propelling the motion.
Anyway, that's all for now. Stay tuned over the next couple of weeks for new exercise videos (sorry for the delay).
Till next time.....

Leashes!
One of the most important pieces of equipment for performing dragging exercises is the leash. A good leash should be long enough to allow for uninhibited movement during the sprint. A leash that is too short will alter running mechanics and cause potential injury. They also need to be strong!
Our new dragging leashes are made out of top quality materials and feature heavy duty chrome hardware that will not wear out or break.....no matter how many times you drag. They are also 9-feet long, ample room to safely drag our sandbag products on the field or in the gym.
These leashes are designed to run easily through our dragging loops and are compatible with any harness or hip belt with a d-ring mount. Priced at 19.99$, these leashes provide excellent value, durability, and safety for dragging exercises.
