You know those times when you really need to turn your 60-pound sandbag into an 80-pound sandbag? How about those times when you need to turn that 80-pound bag into 100 pounds? This may or may not describe you, but for several technical tests the ability to quickly modify and adjust weights is invaluable.

Based on work with the RCMP- Sport Sandbags has come up with a simple and effective way to change the working weight of our bags without creating a massive and cumbersome sandbag. Starting with a 60-pound base bag, the practitioner can add or subtract 20 pound increments to adjust the weight for individual tests.

Double dragging

There has been some expressed need amongst our clients for heavier dragging options. In particular, military and police simulations often require dragging weights in excess of 150 pounds. To address this issue while not building massive and cumbersome bags, we have added rear dragging loops to our 20kg bags. The 20 kg bag is a custom built bag that is used for different applications. Although it is a custom bag, it is not a proprietary item and can be purchased by any interested party.

K-9 Bags

This post is intended as a preview of our new K-9 bags. We have worked with police and military for many years and have manufactured many custom and purpose built products.....including K-9 bags.
Our newest prototype attempts to address all the needs of a K-9 handler while making the product functional as a strength training tool.

Our newest bag incorporates 2-horizontal strap handles for two-handed lifts as well as a central handle for single hand carries. The weight of the bag is 75-80 pounds which closely replicates the weight of most working dogs.

The bottom of the bag has a heavy duty dragging patch which is intended for use on grass, gym floors, or concrete. The patch protects the bag itself during repetitive dragging activities and prevents wearing of the heavy duty shell.

Of course the K-9 bags also have heavy duty loops which are designed to accommodate ropes and leashes for drags and other work simulation activities. Our K-9 leashes (not pictured) are made of restraint grade nylon and can be customized in terms of length to meet various testing and simulation demands.

Sport Sandbags Athlete- Greg Rafter

Sport Sandbags is proud to introduce our newest athlete-Greg Rafter. Greg is a skeleton athlete for the National Development Team and has a varied (and successful) athletic background. He was the 2008 Calgary High School Athlete of the Year and has competed in Football, Volleyball, Rugby, and Track and Field. He also has a Black Belt in Judo and was his class Valedictorian...... so it is pretty safe to call this guy well rounded!

We first spotted Greg training on the track during the summer and stopped by to say hello while we were filming another athlete.  We were intrigued by his training apparatus and wanted to learn more about this fellow and his strange "track skeleton".

After getting to know Greg, we are happy to supply him with equipment that can help him achieve his goal of competing for Canada at the Olympics.  We found a natural synergy between the demands of Skeleton and the dragging capabilities of our bags.

We are also very excited to announce that Greg has recently been selected to travel to Europe in November with teammate (and Gold medalist) Jon Montgomery. This is the essentially the "dress rehearsal" for the Olympic Games and we know firsthand how hard Greg has worked to get to this position. We are proud to be associated with such a dedicated athlete and all around class act.

 We will be following Greg closely over the next few weeks as we wrap up his training video........stay tuned!
